Bad news tonight. Tanis and I found out this afternoon that my mom's lab workup from the lumpectomy came back, and the cancer is much worse than the doctors expected. She was supposed to be done after the surgery on Monday and have a few weeks of radiation therapy to kill anything left. After examining the removed tissue, the doctors found that the cells were extremely cancerous, and it had likely already spread throughout the ducts. We'll know more later, but right now, it's looking like my mom's going to be getting a double mastectomy - basically, although the doctors were optimistic, this was the worst-case scenario. Toby's reaction echoed my sentiments exactly: "Shit..."
