A real post

It's been a long while since I posted something substantial on my blog - mainly because not much is going on - up until this last week, that is.

Tanis and I spent this weekend down in Colorado Springs with my mom, as she is having surgery tomorrow to remove the smallest breast cancer lump ever - they caught it very early. Don't worry, things will go just fine, and she'll be better in no time. Unfortunately, this means our trip to Michigan has been canceled, because my mom gets to spend the next 6 weeks getting radiation treatment. Like I said though - it's nothing to worry about!

On the lighter side of news, Tanis and I have managed to increase our home gym even more. If you remember, Tanis decided she wanted a small manual treadmill to use, so we decided to stimulate the American economy (or at least amazon.com) and get a "cheap" manual one. I came into work this evening and one of my co-workers had posted a note that he was giving away his Power Rider for free, so I figured, what's the harm? The worst that could happen is that we donate it after not using it.

Work is as interesting as ever - the students have all left for the summer, and I'm on grave shift, so my slow nights are going to get even slower. The upside is that this week I'm working 58 hours, which means lots of overtime pay. It'll also give me a lot of time to work on a piece of software I've been working on for the department. It's my first program, so it's taking me a bit as everything is a learning curve, and Josh is helping me quite a bit.

That's all for now, so enjoy this picture of "volcano lightning" from National Geographic:

"The mingling of lightning and ash seen above may be a 'dirty thunderstorm.'

The little-understood storms may be sparked when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in the plume collide to produce static charges—just as ice particles collide to create charge in regular thunderstorms."
